Medical-dental Integration Symposium Attracts Record Audience

The second annual Florida Blue Foundation-Florida Combined Life (FCL) Symposium, held virtually August 24, was attended by hundreds of health care professionals, educators, state and county health officials, and nonprofit community organizations. Attendance was more than triple that of last year’s event. This year’s theme was “Integrated Health Care for Seniors.”

The keynote address by Jennifer Webster-Cyriaque, D.D.S., Ph.D., deputy director at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, addressed the status of oral health in older adults in the U.S., including the impact of disease and polypharmacy (the use of multiple drugs to treat a single condition) on oral health.

Teresa Dolan, D.D.S., M.P.H., president of the Santa Fe Group, president-elect of the American College of Dentists, and chief dental officer of Overjet, discussed the science behind integrated care delivery and the health benefits to patients, especially those with chronic conditions such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Given the growing success of these events, another symposium will be held in 2023. Details of that program will be announced early next year.
