Dental Pretreatment Estimates

Whether you need minor or major dental care, one of your concerns may be the cost. You may also wonder if your plan will cover that care and, if so, how much.

The pretreatment estimate will help you understand how the services you need apply to your plan maximum, Maximum Rollover benefit (if you have a BlueDental PPO plan), deductibles, and copayments. It may also speed up the processing of your dental claims.

The estimate will also let you budget for your dental care and give you with the opportunity to discuss other possible treatments with your dentist. If your condition isn’t urgent and you’re working with your dentist on a long-term treatment plan, a pretreatment estimate will let you set aside funds in a flexible spending or health savings account. It’s especially recommended for complex procedures and treatments, such as crowns, root canals, bridges, dentures, and implants. Keep in mind that this is only an estimate and the actual cost may not be the same.

To get a pretreatment estimate, simply contact your dentist’s office and ask for one. Your dentist will work with us to create the estimate based on the treatment you need and your plan benefits. Be aware that it can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to get your estimate.

Keep in mind that pre-treatment estimates are not a guarantee of the total, final cost of treatment. If your plan changes, you go over your annual maximum or if there are certain issues with a federally funded plan, you may incur additional out-of-pocket costs.
