Why Oral Health for Overall Health?

Dental Health can influence conditions such as diabetes, coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, oral cancer, Sjӧgren’s syndrome and low birth weight and premature babies. A relationship exists between healthy mouth and overall good health. That means it's important to get regular preventive dental care to help maintain your good oral health and overall health.

Does my BlueDental Plan Qualify me for Enhanced Dental Benefits?

Members that have one of the following BlueDental Plans may qualify for additional enhanced dental benefits if they have diabetes, coronary artery disease, suffered a stroke, have oral cancer, Sjӧgren’s syndrome or who are pregnant:

  • Blue Dental Choice
  • Blue Dental Choice Plus
  • Blue Dental Copayment .

On your Member ID card, if under Plan Type it references GROUP/INDIVIDUAL, you're eligible.

Benefits of Oral Health for Overall Health include:

  • Delivering an oral health education campaign to members, providers and employers.
  • Working with members who are not actively maintaining their oral health, through focused communication that encourages members to see their dentist.
  • Removing financial barriers through enhanced dental benefits program that provides at-risk members with condition-specific benefits beyond their standard dental plan benefits when seen by a participating provider.

The mouth is the doorway to your entire body, and conditions such as inflamed, infected gums and tooth decay can lead to dramatic health problems. Research clearly shows that issues in your mouth can affect the rest of your body.


We design enhanced and personalized oral care for qualifying members in an effort to improve overall health. This can include specialized care programs, additional cleanings, and periodontal scaling offered as part of the dental insurance plan at no additional cost.


With permission, we can conduct informative outreach to identified members to help them with disease management. Outreach may be done by mail, phone, email or text.


A variety of communications allows us to share the correlation between oral health and overall health. We build awareness for the benefits to overall health resulting from improved dental care.
